Fjallraven Vidda Pro Pants

The other big purchase I made before my amazing hike in Peru was in a great pair of hiking pants. Now, the Fjallraven Vidda Pro Pants are in a category of their own. I paid over $150 for these pants so my expectations were pretty high.

Buying the Fjallraven Vidda Pro Pants from REI was a great choice for me on the Ausangate trek. Everyone else had more traditional, thin nylon hiking pants. Like everyone else I also brought the typical nylon hiking pants. I mean, why not? They weigh next to nothing and you can cram them into your pack so easily. I brought a pair of Columbia Silver Ridge Convertible Pants and never wore them.

Whereas everyone else had to layer up with thermal underwear and their nylon pants, I was absolutely fine all day with the Fjallraven Vidda Pro Pants. In the morning we woke up to frozen glacier melt and by midday, it was sunny and pleasant. My friends were too cold in the morning and then too hot during the hikes.

The Fjallraven Vidda Pro Pants come packed with features that other pants simply do not have. This 35-second video from Fjallraven demonstrates all of the features.

These pants are made for the outdoors. When you are wearing them, you feel like you are wearing outdoor armor. The G1000 cotton fabric, yes, cotton, feels like armor. It comes weatherized for wind and water. The reinforcements in the knees and your backside are useful for kneeling, sitting down outdoors, or posing for a picture in front of a glacier.
